SOUTH 12TH MYSTIC SOUNDSCAPES™, Vol. 1: SOUNDS OF THE SEA
12. BEACH BABY BONUS TRACK (3:18)
Finally, the last chapter in the Mystic Soundscapes saga! A very special thanks to all the singers along for the ride: Glen in Louisville, Erik and Kate in Minneapolis, Molly in Minneapolis, Ben in Iowa City, Erin and Emily in Senegal, Noah in Minneapolis, and me. Our voices sound most beautiful massed together in song.
This summer, all of the Sounds of the Sea from this volume will be released as a downloadable album, complete with nautical cover art and penetrating liner notes by Raynor Ganan.
In the meantime, enjoy this traffic jam-enhanced beach jam.

Editor’s note: This will be the final regular installment of this volume of MYSTIC SOUNDSCAPES. It will be followed by a very special reader-enhanced twelfth track next week. It’s not too late to participate! Next spring, S. 12th will release this volume’s companion set, SOUTH 12TH MYSTIC SOUNDSCAPES, Vol. 2: HARMONICES MUNDI: SOUNDS OF THE COSMOS.

For the celebratory final #12 track of the SOUNDS OF THE SEA soundscapes anthology, which will probably be ready next week sometime, I will need your participation, reader. I know there are at least a dozen of you that seem to be on-board (ha ha, get it?) with this whole endeavor, so now’s the time for us all get together to send it off sailing into the sunset (Ibid.). This can be done in five minutes by anyone, anywhere in the world. If you’re a regular reader of S. 12th, you’re eligible.
You will need these elements:
- Garageband or some other recording program(me).
- The built-in mic on your computer (or a nicer mic, if you have it).
- A pair of headphones.
- The YouTube video of this song.
- The lyrics (as written by one “Gil Shakespeare”), located here.
- Email.
What you will need to do: record yourself singing at least the chorus (and really, as much of the song as you’d like — even if you’ve never heard it, it’s pretty easy to get the gist of) with the headphones on playing the song, so as to give the impression of an a capella performance. Import it to your iTunes or whatever so that it’s an MP3, and then email the file to me at andysturdevant@gmail.com. Using my patented blend of Rick Rubinesque studio magick, I will blend all your voices into a single, mass-chorused, insurmountable wall of sound. It doesn’t matter if you can’t sing particularly well — I’ll fix it in post-production. If you have kids and they’re around, bring them in, too. If you’re part of a power couple of some kind, you can both sing it together. We’re all doing this together.
Remember also to email your other favorite Tumblrs and demand their participation. I want to hear Mills Baker singing beach music songs.
UPDATE: The deadline is 6 p.m. CST, Valentine’s Day, Monday, Feb. 14.
